adventures in dyeing...

well... i have finally tried out kool-aid dyeing...
i used instructions found in knitty...
i used strawberry and orange for today's experiments...
and a 4 oz. (113 g) Lamb's Pride Bulky (85% wool / 15% mohair) in white frost...

i used a paint brush to "paint" the yarn...
the last time i did this was in textiles II in spring 2003...
we dyed on cotton... using dyes from g&s dyes...
it was pretty fun but i found it to be a bit of a hassle... i'm not a big fan of wet processes... (hence the needle felting)
but i did learn quite a from that class....

after all the micro and rinsing...
it hangs in the bathroom...
i seem to be having some problems telling apart colours in this flat when it's not day time with natural light... at the present moment... it's just red... but as you can see... there are some hints of orange... not to mention the fact that the yarn is also wet...
anyways... here it hangs...
it reminds me of pixie stix... this candy i ate when i was a kid... it could be due to the smell of the kool-aid... while i was applying the colours...
i'm still working on a name for the yarn...
